Tide series

These works comprise overlaid veils of paint; thin, poured washes which are allowed to flow freely across the canvas surface, leaving raw tide-lines which mark their movement and then stillness. This method of working and the resulting surfaces explore representations of the receding/advancing tide; depth; near/far of sea, sky, land; emergence/erasure; and shifting qualities of colour and light.

Spontaneous surface washes are sometimes combined with controlled, precise marks and glazes; accumulating surface depth and detail.  Colours are informed by specific places, including the Northumbrian coast around Craster.
